In 2015, the Centre for Multicultural Studies, which is under Sookmyung University’s Research Institute for Asian Women, was designated as an early adoption program institute for immigrants by the Ministry of Justice and has been operating as an early adoption program for marriage migrants. The marriage-migrant early adoption programme is an integrated social programme designed to assist foreign migrants looking to settle in Korea by providing necessary information on laws, systems, and democracy early on during their visit. Amongst the programme benefits is an extension of permission to remain a minimum of two years at a time of registration as a foreigner, (except those who are restricted to enter) along with the recognition of two hours of education when attending the social integration programme.
